Down to just a single model in the U.S., the Fiat Brand is showing signs of life. Revealed today at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the 500e, an electrified version of Fiat’s 2-door subcompact hatchback, will return to the U.S. in early 2024.

Gasoline and electric versions of the 500 were offered in the States between 2012 and 2019, though the electric 500e was offered only in California and Oregon. The updated 500e will be offered more broadly, though may not be sold in every state.

Though specifications for the new 500e are not yet available. Fiat did present three designer concepts models at the L.A. show: the 500e Giorgio Armani, Kartell, and Bvlgari. All three have been uniquely trimmed, and Fiat says the cars portray the 500’s “three souls: sustainable design, sustainable fashion, and sustainable luxury.”

The U.S.-market 500e was rated at just 84 miles of range. Currently on sale in Europe, the 2022 500e, with the highest-capacity available battery, is rated at 199 miles on the Euro WLTP test cycle, which translates to about 175 miles as rated by the EPA. We expect the 2025 500e to offer similar performance.

 CG Says:

Turns out Fiat isn’t dead in the U.S., at least not yet. As parent company Stellantis ramps up to launch its first electric vehicle in the American market, the Ram EV pickup, the company is making sure that it has additional electric product available to meet growing EV demand.

This is not unlike what General Motors is doing with the Chevrolet Bolt EV. On sale now, the Bolt EV is a placeholder for the likes of the Equinox EV and Blazer EV, which are due to arrive soon.

The big question is, with just 360 dealers left in the U.S., is the Fiat brand the best conduit to electrification for Stellantis? Or, will we see the 500e show up at other Stellantis stores as well?
