Honda to Start Testing Program in September Toward Launch of Autonomous Vehicle Mobility Service Business in Japan

– Community road checks will be performed in 2022 in Utsunomiya Metropolis and Haga City, Tochigi Prefecture –

TOKYO, Japan, September 8, 2021 – Honda currently declared that it will get started a screening software for autonomous autos in September 2021, taking a step toward an autonomous motor vehicle mobility company (MaaS) company in Japan, which Honda is setting up to launch underneath collaboration with Cruise and General Motors.

The screening software for autonomous motor vehicles mobility company systems will be performed in Utsunomiya Metropolis and Haga City, Tochigi Prefecture. As the first step to put together for comprehensive screening, a higher-definition map of the area will be designed working with a specialized motor vehicle for mapping. At the time the higher-definition map is ready, the autonomous motor vehicle, Cruise AV, will be pushed on public roads to establish and exam autonomous autos adapted to the visitors environment and the applicable legislation and laws in Japan.

Honda and Cruise will jointly do the job on the screening software, and also it will be pursued at a new operations exam website to be established within a Honda facility in Tochigi Prefecture.
