Maruti Suzuki India’s (MSI) entry-level hatchback Alto was the best selling passenger vehicle model in India in October 2021. Seven other models of the auto major also are in the October top 10 PV list, according to industry data.One model each from the stable of Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) and Kia India also made it to the list of top 10 selling PVs, according to the latest data by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
The list clearly showed the dominance of the MSI in the Indian passenger vehicle (PV) market.
Despite a decline of 2.6%, Alto secured the first position by selling 17,389 units in October 2021 as against 17,850 units in the same month last year.
In the previous financial year MSI had sold 2,58,539 Alto cars.
MSI’s premium hatchback Baleno retained the second position with the sales of 15,573 units last month. The model had sold 21,971 units in the same month a year ago.
The company’s MUV car Ertiga stood third with the sales of 12,923 units during the month under review. The model could not make up to the elite list in October 2020.
MSI’s small car Wagon R fell one position to the fourth spot by selling 12,335 units in October 2021. The model had also occupied the third spot in the same month a year ago with 18,703 units.
India’s second largest carmaker makes its entry at the fifth position with its SUV Venue with 10,554 units. Another SUV from Kia India grabbed the sixth spot with 10,488 units last month.
Occupying the seventh position in October 2021 was MSI’s Eeco with 10,320 units, moving up from the eighth position in October a year ago when it sold 13,309 units.
At the eighth place in the list was MSI hatchback Swift with 9,180 units, moving down from the first position in the same month a year ago with 24,589 units.
MSI’s compact sedan Dzire stood ninth with sales of 8,077 units in October 2021. The older version of the sedan had occupied the fifth spot in October 2020 with 17,675 units.
The auto major’s other compact SUV model Vitara Brezza completed the list by grabbing the tenth position with sales of 8,032 units last month as against 12,087 units in October 2020, SIAM said.
