Northvolt is to commit US$200m in expanding its battery methods capabilities in Gdansk, Poland.
Beginning manufacturing in 2022, the new manufacturing facility will have an initial annual output of 5 GWh and opportunity foreseeable future ability of twelve GWh.
“Securing battery cell production ability in Europe is critical for its industrial foreseeable future, but what is similarly essential is the industrial ability for integrating cells into true-planet remedies,” claimed Northvolt co-founder and CEO, Peter Carlsson.
“It is this the new manufacturing facility will supply sophisticated, sustainable energy storage systems to support the transformation of Europe’s electricity grid and its marketplace.”
The investment will facilitate a ramp-up in the manufacturing capacity of battery modules and methods in order to fulfil contracts Northvolt has secured with customers seeking long-time period, high-volume offer agreements for complete battery procedure solutions across grid and industrial markets.
The undertaking builds on the company’s start-up of a battery methods industrialisation plant in Gdansk in 2019.
The advancement of the new manufacturing facility has now begun with expectation the first stage of construction will commence in autumn, 2021, for a start of manufacturing in 2022.
The initial stage of the undertaking will build an annual output of 5 GWh of modules and packs. A next stage of the undertaking will see the factory expand to a total capacity of 12 GWh.
Such as a new engineering R&D centre of excellence to be set up in conjunction with the factory enlargement, the initiative will generate five hundred new careers in the Gdansk region.
“Northvolt has been existing in Poland for 3 years and we are impressed by both equally the professionalism and calibre of the engineers and production workers we’re engaged with in our functions listed here,” additional Northvolt Battery Systems president, Emad Zand.
The manufacturing facility will get its offer of lithium-ion battery cells from the Northvolt Ett gigafactory, located in Skellefteå, Sweden.
As Northvolt’s ambition is to go on to develop on the small emission manufacturing platform set up in Sweden within its functions in Poland, the new manufacturing facility will be run with renewable electrical power, which include on-web site renewable electrical power generation.
