New Delhi:
The country’s largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp’s entry-level commuter motorcycle has yet again grabbed the lead position in the top 10 selling two-wheeler category with wholesales of 206,122 units in December 2021.Splendor has always been the top contender in the monthly ranking list and managed to take the lead for the entire calendar year 2021, except for January when it was second to Honda Activa.
Honda Activa, which has been the country’s highest selling scooter, saw 22% YoY decline to 104,417 units in December 2021 from 134,077 units in the corresponding month of 2020.
Meanwhile, it may be noted that the two-wheeler sales across the spectrum have been tepid, following the slowest recovery of the rural sector since the second COVID wave in 2021. The sales were also affected by the exorbitant rise in fuel prices in the past few months.
In December, the third spot was occupied by Hero HF Deluxe motorcycle, despite a 41% decline in sales compared to December 2020.
The niche bike maker Royal Enfield’s Classic 350 took the seventh spot, even though it saw a de-growth of more than 11%.
The ratio of motorcycles to scooters during the last month was about 8:2, with Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter scooters making it to the top 10 list this time.
Hero Glamour motorcycle, at number nine, was the highest gainer during the month with a YoY growth of about 64%. In December last year, the model did not manage to get a place among the top 10 bestselling bikes.
Similarly, Bajaj Platina, which was not one of the top 10 two wheelers for December 2020, saw a YoY rise of over 45% in wholesales for December 2021 and reached the fifth position this time.
Meanwhile, Suzuki Access scooter which was at the seventh position in December 2020 did not make it to the list this time.
