Earlier in March, the DGFT had imposed curbs on imports of certain new pneumatic tyres used in motor cars, buses, lorries and motorcycles in a move to promote domestic manufacturing.

New Delhi: The govt on Tuesday stated import of tyres beneath the Responsibility Totally free Import Authorisation (DFIA) scheme will not not be allowed. Beneath the DFIA scheme, exporters are allowed to import goods at zero responsibility for 3 years.

In a notification, the Directorate Standard of Foreign Trade (DGFT) stated a new sub-para in a chapter in the Foreign Trade Coverage 2015-20 “for disallowing import of tyres beneath DFIA scheme is released”.

Previously in March, the DGFT experienced imposed curbs on imports of selected new pneumatic tyres employed in motor vehicles, buses, lorries and motorcycles in a move to promote domestic production.

Placing the merchandise beneath a limited category means an importer would involve a licence or authorization from the DGFT for imports.

The govt is taking actions to promote domestic production and cut down import invoice of non-crucial merchandise.
