Everyone should be knowledgeable about the charities they support to ensure they agree with their philosophies and know how much of the funds collected are required for admin overhead. I have no other affiliation with Goodwill than as an occasional donor. Once Bradd told me that, well, my respect for Discover Goodwill went up even more. I think it’s great that there are so many options where we can find ways to help those in our communities who might need a helping hand.

March of Dimes is an organization dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Founded in 1938 as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, the original mission of the March of Dimes was to find a vaccine for polio and to care for polio victims.

As its name suggests, the charity supports our country’s heroes, given assistance to those in need of homes, mental health care, and educations. Or so you’d think… in fact, only 3{0764260a27b4b31ca71a8adf79c3ae299a61e6f062052eee3f0df84ce9b30ade} of their donations actually make it into the hands of Vietnam Vets.

St. Jude is the first known hospital in the world to cure sickle cell disease through bone marrow transplantation. Today, bone marrow transplantation still offers the only cure for sickle cell disease. Members of Kappa Alpha Psi reach out to churches in their local communities to host a Sunday of Hope each January in support of St. Jude. During the Sunday of Hope, churches will take up a special offering in honor of the patients and families of St. Jude.

You can choose to give you money to help build houses for the poor, find cures for diseases, protect endangered animals, or help children learn to read. The problem isn’t finding a charity to support, but narrowing down your options and choosing the one you find most worthy. Unfortunately, some children’s charities that do incredible work never make it onto our radar screen because they simply don’t have the manpower or the money to publicize their efforts. You may never have heard of these organizations, but we hope you’ll be inspired to add them to your holiday list.

One of its programs encourages people to donate one hour’s wage to battle childhood hunger. Another initiative helps communities hold fund-raisers to benefit hungry kids. St. Jude and over 46 of its staff members have been the recipients of numerous exemplary awards and achievements. For example, in 2010 St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital was named the number one children’s cancer hospital in the U.S by U.S.

Remember, the Special Wage Certificates are for those who are severely handicapped, and less than 10{0764260a27b4b31ca71a8adf79c3ae299a61e6f062052eee3f0df84ce9b30ade} of all Goodwill employees fall under this category. As an employer, would I pay two employees the same amount of money if one can, say, type 100 words a minute versus someone who can type 5 words a minute? As an employee, do you Donate Queensland Hospital want someone who makes 10 sales calls a day versus your 100 calls to make the same amount as you do? Sheila also doesn’t mention in her letter if they received insurance and transportation opportunities. I know a lot of people who work 40 or more hours a week and still can’t afford insurance for themselves or their families.
